About Krakow

Krakow kept its old town through the wars, and its wide market square has the Cloth Hall in the middle and the two unequal towers of St Mary’s Basilica on one side. Wawel Castle and Cathedral stand on a hill above the river Vistula.

Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter, has synagogues, galleries and small restaurants. Many visitors also make the sombre trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial, about an hour and a half away; book the guided visit in advance.

To and from the city
