About Helsinki
Helsinki faces the Baltic on a peninsula of granite and islands. The white Lutheran cathedral stands above Senate Square, and the market square on the harbour is where the ferries to the island fortress of Suomenlinna leave.
The centre is easy to walk, with trams for longer distances. Public saunas, old and new, are part of everyday life here, and the sea is never more than a few streets away.
