About Gdansk
Gdansk is an old Hanseatic port on the river Motlawa. Its tall, narrow merchant houses line the Long Market, and the medieval crane, once used to load ships and step masts, stands on the waterfront.
The shipyard where the Solidarity movement began is now home to the European Solidarity Centre. Sopot, with its long wooden pier, and the beaches of the Baltic are a short train ride away.
